- Reference with abstract and all other data
- Full study as pdf
Filtering:
- Discipline (same as alts database)

Results of filtering:
- List of references (with PMID), by first author and alphabetical
Search
Results of searches:
-
List of references (with PMID)
- by first author and alphabetical
- by relevance
- by other methods?
- Available as print format (like alts database results is / will be)
Results should be references as given in the example below – nice and smooth (author/s, title, journal with volume, issue, (pages), year), not in separate fields like the abstracts on pubmed because they can’t easily be copied. But as we also want results according to author, journal, year etc, or later we might provide filtering according to these or other fields, I’m assuming that the vol should enter the full reference, each field within the reference, and the abstract, separately. Is that right?
Access: All public access except full study as pdf which is for NCs and Partners only
Further functionality (now or later):
- Translation issues
- Links to results for searches for each authors (like pubmed)
- Related studies (like pubmed)
- Links to alternatives in alts database
- Other external links, beyond pubmed
Journals usually have abbreviated titles, but it would be good to have both the abbreviations and the full names recognised in the searches.
Example of Reference (with PMID):
Aboud E, Suarez CE, Al-Mefty O, Yasargil MG. New alternative to animal models for surgical training. Altern Lab Anim 32(Suppl. 1):501–507, 2004.
Example of (same) Reference with abstract:
Aboud E, Suarez CE, Al-Mefty O, Yasargil MG. New alternative to animal models for surgical training. Altern Lab Anim 32(Suppl. 1):501–507, 2004.
Laboratory training models are essential for developing and refining surgical skills, especially in microsurgery. A perfect training model is the one that can provide the same situation during surgery, in the same anatomy; the closer to live surgery the model is, the greater the benefit. The lack of an accurate vascular model has sometimes necessitated the use of live models when bleeding, and vascular liquid filling is desired for optional learning. We developed a new model utilising human cadavers that can replace the use of live anaesthetised animals for surgical training. The vessels in a cadaveric specimen were connected to artificial blood reservoirs. The arterial side was connected to a pump to provide pulsating pressure inside the arteries, while the venous side was kept under static pressure that applied to the reservoir. This method provides a condition that simulates live surgery in terms of bleeding, pulsation and liquid filling of the vascular tree. It is an excellent alternative model and can be applied to the whole cadaver or to a particular cadaveric specimen (head, arm, leg) or to an isolated organ. It is distinctive and of a great practical value for training in a wide range of surgical procedures, utilising this technique could forever eliminate the use of live anaesthetised animals for surgical training. The model and device are patent pending application no. 101339,053.

Changes needed for studies database
Hi. Also put on Cases.
General:
1. Sumayyah the vol still can’t edit cos there’s no buttons at the top for her
Ref page:
2. The year appears twice in the refs on the ref page still. It should just appear once, after the journal name (abbreviation) and not at the end of the ref
3. A blank line or half a line between each ref on the ref page would be good
Abstract page:
4. Title is OK at the top of the page, but perhaps ‘Studies database’ is better. I don’t mind. (It’s always very hard to see the title on all of the site pages because it is so high up and because the rest of the page starts right below it. Can it be less squashed?)
5. We need the full ref repeated, not just parts of the ref. So, just like the entry on the ref page. The whole order should then be:
ref (like on main page, all one line)
PMID (with number on same line if poss, and not bold)
Abstract (with title ‘Abstract’ in bold)
Author's contacts [limited access]
Author's keywords [limited access]
InterNICHE keywords [limited access]
File [limited access]
- with a blank line in between each field (incl below each title)
6. Align text
Editing page:
7. Please change ‘Summary’ to ‘Abstract’, and ‘Issue’ to ‘Journal and volume’
8. Under Issue, please change note to read ‘Journal with year, volume, issue, pages’
I think that’s everything
Thanks
Nick
