Frog Rectus Abdominis Preparation
Producer: PIDATAThis program simulates the frog rectus abdominis preparation. The tissue can be exposed to drugs such as succinylcholine, acetylcholine, carbachol, atropine, potassium, dimethylphenylpiperazinium (DMPP), methacholine, histamine, physostigmine, hexamethonium, tubocurarine, pancuronium, gallamine, fazadinium, decamethonium, edrophonium, atracurium, dantrolene, lignocaine and neostigmine at any concentration. Agonists can be added in the presence of an antagonist, and the order of addition and the concentration is entirely in the hands of the user. Drug effects can be reversed by washing as required. Output in the form of a simulated trace can be displayed on the screen or provided as a permanent record on a printer. Students can be asked to follow a schedule of drug administration fixed by the teacher and to observe and write-up effects produced in the normal way. Alternatively, students can design their own experiments to answer set questions or can learn using learn-by-discovery methods.
