The InterNICHE Alternatives Database is an evolving free-access database providing information about tools that are available for purchase and implementation in education and training. It covers the medical, veterinary medical and biological science fields.

For over 1000 products (or groups of products), it provides descriptions, images, platforms, and the cost for each item, as well as contact details of the producers or distributors. The Alternatives Database is searchable by discipline, medium and keyword.

Each included product has been researched and reviewed for its relevance to knowledge and skills acquisition, including its potential as an 'alternative', for the replacement of harmful animal use such as animal experimentation.

Typical products include anatomy models for zoology and veterinary medicine; software for physiology classes in biology, medicine and veterinary medicine; pharmacology software for medicine and veterinary medicine; and a wide range of skills trainers and mannekins for clinical and surgical skills acquisition in medicine and veterinary medicine.

The Alternatives Database doesn't feature many tools for the study of anatomy in medical education, as there are many products available, and this is generally not an area for potential replacement of harmful animal use. However, the producers of featured clinical and surgical training tools may also sell such products. Information will be found on their websites.

Please note that InterNICHE does not sell the products featured in the Alternatives Database. Users should contact the producers directly for all enquiries and purchases. Producers might list distributors for a user's geographical region on their website, or direct enquiries to them.

Prices quoted in the Alternatives Database are typically those of the producers' country, so please also note that these may vary according to region and distributor.

As an evolving resource, the Alternatives Database is periodically updated with new products and versions, and discontinued items are archived. For the very latest information, please contact the producer directly. While these updates aim to provide up to date information, note that InterNICHE does not take any responsibility for changes and inaccuracies in the information it provides.

The Alternatives Database has been published to facilitate free access to information that can support curricular transformation. It can help identify specific alternative tools to enhance education and training, and can be used in parallel with the InterNICHE Studies Database.

Feedback and suggestions for new content is welcome. Producers are invited to keep InterNICHE informed about product availability and other updates.

Please credit the InterNICHE Studies and Alternatives Databases if you use them for a project or paper.
