Abstract

The multimedia program HEMATOSIM, made at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, is used to study comparative haematology. The program was tested on 31 students, divided into two groups, both attending physiology classes. The two groups of students were treated as following: Group A was presented with the theoretical aspects of a haematology experiment, and afterwards each student performed the experiment individually in the laboratory. Group B was also presented with the theoretical aspects of the experiment, then each student worked individually with HEMATOSIM, and finally each student performed the experiment individually.

The average grade obtained by the students in Group B (7.26 out of 10) was 27.81% higher than the one obtained by the students in Group A (5.68 out of 10), the difference between the two groups being statistically significant (p<0.025). The use of HEMATOSIM significantly improved the students’ test results. The improvement was evident for the theoretical aspect of the coursework in haematology, but even more so for the practical aspect, where its use substantially improved the quality of the didactical process.
