Simulated Vascular Rings Preparations

Producer: British Pharmacological Society

This flexible simulation allows students to perform experiments on 4 different preparations: the arterial ring with or without endothelium, the venous ring with endothelium and the arterial ring previously treated with endotoxin. These tissues can be exposed to various drugs, the sequence, doses and timing of administration are all in the hands of the user. A wide range of drugs which act on vascular muscle and/or the endothelium are available (noradrenaline, 5-HT, desmethyl-imipramine, acetylcholine, nitroprusside, clonidine, phenylephrine, nifedipine, etc.). A great variety of experiments can be performed, tailored to the requirements of basic or advanced students. A comprehensive tutor’s guide provides examples of schedules, references and guidance for tutors. The simulation is embedded in an authorware teaching package providing pharmacological information about the systems involved.
